What is Teens Count?

Teens Count is a program for adolescents ages 13 to 17 with the disease of alcoholism/chemical dependency in their home.

Who is eligible for this programs?

Any non-addicted adolescent 13 to 17 who has been affected by a family member's addiction to alcohol or other drugs. The teenager must have at least one parent (or parent substitute) in treatment with us.

This is not a program for recovering addicted teens.

What kind of program is Teens Count?

Teens Count is a 12 week program. The first week you and your parent will meet with your group leader. The next 10 weeks you will meet in a group with other teens like yourself to learn about chemical dependency. On the last week you and your parents will come back together to meet with the group leader to share with your parents what you have learned.

What will we be doing in the group?

In the group you will be learning about setting goals, making choices, your feelings, defenses, chemical dependency and families. The information will be presented through games, discussions, role playing, art therapy and films. Teens Count provides a safe place for vulnerable adolescents to share with others who understand their problems because they too are coping with them and learning how to find a measure of joy through experiences the serious difficulties of family addiction.
