What is Seniors Count?

Seniors Count is the first counseling program of its kind in New Jersey to address alcohol and drug problems in the older adult.

Who is eligible for this program?

Any person over the age of 60 who:

1. Has a problem with alcohol or drugs and wants to become sober.
2. Has been affected by someone else's addiction; for instance, a spouse, grandparent or parent as well as those who have discovered they grew up in alcoholic home as youngsters.

What kind of program is Seniors Count?

Seniors Count is an ongoing weekly support and counseling group with informational discussions as part of each group's time structure. Art therapy is also part of the seniors' recovery experience.

What will we be doing in the group?

Part of each session is taken up with informational lectures or tapes. Another part consists of separate groups for the recovering alcoholics or addicts and co-dependents (spouses, parents, grandparents, etc.) In addition, there is a joint session where the combined groups can interact with each other then enjoy a social time with light refreshments..Seniors Count provides a comforting place where older adults can meet and work out the special problems of addiction and the special joys of recovery in
the later years of life.

When Does Seniors Count meet?

Seniors Count meets ever Friday from 1:30 to 3:00 pm, at The Van Ost Institute.
